Project
Custom Hardwood Shelves
A wall-mounted shelving piece designed with an emphasis on material contrast, proportion, and clean execution.
Overview
This project was developed as a custom shelving piece that balanced utility with a strong visual emphasis on wood selection and material expression. The design focused on achieving a clean wall-mounted presence while allowing the figured hardwoods to carry most of the visual character.
Design Process
The shelving was first modeled in SketchUp to study proportion, spacing, and the relationship between the individual components. That design process helped refine the final dimensions before fabrication began and ensured that the finished piece would read cleanly on the wall.
Material and Execution
Birdseye maple, curly maple, and teak were selected to create both contrast and warmth. Care was taken to maintain crisp lines, balanced composition, and a finished result that felt intentional rather than overly decorative.

SketchUp model and design studies
The project was developed in SketchUp to study proportion, spacing, and overall composition before fabrication. Multiple iterations were used to refine how the piece would read visually and function in practice.
This section can later support an interactive model, allowing the design to be explored more directly.
